Serving up life hacks with a side of psychology
It’s All Good!
Greetings! My name is Shenica Graham, and I will be your instructor. I hold a BA in Psychology and BA in General Studies. I teach psychology courses. I specialize in mental health disorders and behavior modification. I welcome you to Mental Platter, where your psych Plat Du Jour is always up and looking good.
Mental Platter is a derivative of a FREE Course Sample from My Psych Teacher University. This is your introduction to the course in behavior modification. Here, you will explore hacks for improving upon the sometimes mundane, albeit necessary processes of life. If you complete the series, you should be able to take practical steps toward personal fulfillment and improved wellness.
I initially wrote this curriculum to help me recover from major setbacks in my own life, including Major Depression, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder. It began when I left a psychiatric ward after a frightening episode of suicidal depression. I had lost my core connection and I did not know who I was, where I was, or what to do about it.
New to Mental Platter?
Now that you have found the best place for what is vogue in mental health, here’s to your makeover that won’t leave you broke. You can change your entire life trajectory without ending up in a psychiatric ward. I’ll teach you how to go from frustrating madness to victorious living. One thing a Bipolar dealer (person battling the disorder) knows is how to use a little mania.
While a full discourse on any possible condition is beyond the scope of this course, getting educated about your challenges and resources is a next step beyond spiritual activities that can help you to cope while you receive healing. I believe it can work for you as you re-invent yourself.
The key to this course is keeping an honest and exact personal journal to chronicle starting benchmarks and progress (such as preexisting conditions, notes, challenges, setbacks, triumphs, interventions, and final results). You will also use your personal journal to record thoughts, feelings and information about your environment. This will help you understand your behaviors. You will be able to find self-negating thoughts and their underlying causes. Once you know the sources of your setbacks, you can make a comeback.
Why Mental Platter?
Did you know that 5 percent of adults 18 years or older experience mental illnesses in any one year? That equates to 43.8 million people according to Mental Health First Aid. The same source states that in the U.S. alone, 4 percent of adults have one mental health disorder; six percent have three or more disorders (as I do). That amounts to major challenges when it comes to acquiring critical life skills and opportunities.
I searched for a resource like the one you are entering when I was losing in life within a lack of purpose: a resource that would help with the emotional, mental, and spiritual issues that ravaged my life. I found that the stigma of mental health and specifically depression was nearly as bad as battling the disease. I developed this course to addresses the spiritual, mental, and physical wellness that I had no idea how to cultivate before the research that led to this series.
That is why I started Mental Platter — to share my life hacks that have helped me to gain stability amidst mental health disorders. Mental Platter is also backed by the support of two growing educational programs that teach practical skills to decrease the prevalence of debilitating symptoms of mental illness and promote maintenance skills for mental health.
SandLine is a psycho social rehabilitation program that is tailored to the unique needs of at-risk populations. Target participants include youths, teens, and adults, living with mental illness and or addiction, within or transitioning from the justice system. I more than vouch for it, I created it. I know what it can do with the foundation of a single-minded purpose.

What is a psychology (psych) hack?
Psychology is the study of the mind, its functions, and behavior, but you don’t need to be a therapist to make it work like a boss in your favor. A psychology (or psych for short) hack is a psychological method, strategy, or technique applied to life to help you manage your time and activities more efficiently. Psych hacks and life hacks in general, can help you to be more successful in your career and help you reach your personal and professional goals.
Certain psych hacks naturally work for most people because the brain has a standard and masterful design common to humanity. These hacks are effective for most people except for those who have some birth or other derived defects. Some psych hacks also work better for certain types of people, such as people with certain mental illnesses. We’ll talk about them in a later article.
Broadly applicable psych hacks include journalism about your mental health. According Psych Central, journalism (or keeping letters or diaries) is an ancient tradition dating back to at least 10th century Japan. Writing involves critical thinking, reflection, and the voice in your head. Without going LIVE, you already have an audience of one for what you write as you process it through reading. Writing allows you to edit and revise your thoughts, which you can actively change to form more positive beliefs when what is off the top of your head is something negative.
All you need to know is that nothing as powerful as a changed mind. If you can change your mind, you can change everything. Mark today on your calendar and set some fresh goals. Mental Platter psych hacks will help you live your best life.
What makes me an expert?
Shenica R. Graham, Author & Recording Artist. Selfie.
Not much — thirty years of PTSD sprinkled with schizophrenia.
I am crazy about what I write.
I know what works. Next week, I celebrate nine months of recovery following what seemed like a mid-life crisis (not my first rodeo, but hopefully the last of its kind).
I began having symptoms of mental illness as a teenager. I understand mental health issues complicating life. I understand suicidal ideology. Now in my forties, I live mental health from both perspectives of patient and life coach. My goal is to empower those living with mental illness and to educate those working with them.
My unique spin on psychology is what I would call a stylish cooking voice. I mingle recipes with the latest fashion trends that keep the endorphins coming, then mix in some research and writing to keep all minds clear on the facts. You can expect to find articles and anecdotes among quotes and book reviews.
Since drawing my line in the sand (delineating the end of my life as a victim and beginning of my victorious life) with the SandLine program, I have tried to be more cognizant with counting my blessings — like a happiness key — not a small, specific, numbered, fits one lock key. An old-fashioned “skeleton” key that opens any door. You choose the doors to open (and the ones to keep closed (the downers)).
After a near death experience and other challenges, I discovered the life hacks that I will share with you in this course.
Searching for a specific mental health topic? Send me a message. I’ll whip up something tasty for your neurons. Need a fashionable life hack? That’s my specialty! Stay tuned for my #fashionforword lexicon. On a journey to a new you? Me too! Let’s walk a way together and share a cold one (I mean lemonade, of course).
I invite you to share your experiences as you travel through this series. Let me know how this program works for you. I can’t wait to watch, listen to, and read about your challenges and successes. I wish you hope and healing.
Now that you know what my channel is about, I hope you will keep coming back to get your full of the Mental Platter. It’s all good. If you are nourished like I know you will be, feel free to like, comment, share, and send me a tip. Thanks for reading Mental Platter.
